In recent years, driven by the booming tourism economy and the implementation of the 240-hour visa-free transit policy, China's passenger traffic of civil aviation has been increasing rapidly. In 2024, China’s airlines transported a total of 730 million passengers*, setting a new record in the civil aviation development history.
To tackle difficulties in baggage handling and meet demands for sorting large volumes of baggage, Wayzim installed its innovative Loop Cross Belt Baggage Sorting System at this airport. The project thus becomes Chinese mainland’s first airport baggage handling project using this technology, providing an intelligent solution to the pain points such as high damage rates and low sorting efficiency in airport baggage handling.
The system inducts baggage by using sorting carriers in a loop sorting mode. With a mainline running speed of up to 2.5 m/s and sorting efficiency of up to 7,500 pph, the site space utilization has been significantly increased.
Equipped with an intelligent barcode scan system comprising intelligent area scan cameras and intelligent line scan cameras, the system can perform 360° scanning on each piece of baggage to ensure that the baggage is accurately sorted to the correct sorting destination.
The sorting carriers actively output baggage through friction belt operation with a small height difference between the carriers and the discharge points, allowing for flexible baggage sorting.
At the end of the sorting system, non-powered rollers and damping rollers are installed on the damping chutes to reduce the impact of sliding baggage and ensure smooth baggage sliding without baggage damage.
The automated baggage handling system uses a Loop Cross Belt Sorting System to solve limited sorting space and low sorting efficiency problems, making the equipment highly compatible with the site and achieving efficient automated baggage sorting.
The system consists of two hardware systems, including a departure system and an arrival system, and one software control system, with a total equipment length of about 900 meters. The designed annual passenger throughput is 5 million passengers, and annual aircraft movements are 45,000.
Includes the standard baggage departure system, large baggage departure system, Loop Cross Belt Sorting System, and camera recognition system.
Includes multiple horizontal claim carousels.
Includes the electrical and control system, SCADA system, information management system, and video monitoring system.
The successful application of Wayzim’s Loop Cross Belt Sorting System in the airport baggage handling project highlights Wayzim’s technological innovation and strength in intelligent logistics, marking that China's baggage handling in civil aviation has entered a new era of intelligence.
In summary, this project not only provides a more efficient, intelligent, and safe baggage handling solution for China's air hubs, but also enables a more convenient and reliable travel experience for millions of passengers. Further, the project can serve as a valuable reference for future smart and localized upgrades of more airports.
